Presidential candidate (candidate) number 1 Anies Baswedan explained his reasons for giving a low value to the performance of the Ministry of Defense (Kemenhan) in the third debate of the 2024 presidential election.

Anies gave a score of 11 out of 100 to the ministry led by presidential candidate number 2 Prabowo Subianto as Minister of Defense. This low score was also disclosed by presidential candidate number 3, Ganjar Pranowo who gave a score of 5 out of 10.

Anies emphasized that he did not deliberately agree with Ganjar in giving the Ministry of Defense a low score. What is an indicator for Anies in giving an assessment to the Ministry of Defense is the issue of the welfare of TNI soldiers who are considered less attention.

"There is no discussion (with Ganjar), there is nothing. But how our TNI soldiers, our TNI officers work hard. They are all out in carrying out their duties, but the Defense Minister is not supported by good support," said Anies while campaigning in Gorontalo, Monday, January 8.

In yesterday's presidential candidate debate, Anies highlighted Prabowo's land covering an area of 340,000 hectares. Meanwhile, according to him, there are still many TNI soldiers who do not yet have an official residence. Anies views this as inequality because the welfare of the apparatus under the auspices of the Ministry of Defense has not been optimized.

"I see that the welfare issue for soldiers must be a priority, both the TNI, Polri, and ASN in the defense sector. Well, when the budget is allocated Rp700 trillion so far, then the budget is not used to ensure that welfare is achieved, yes, this is a problem. The subordinates are asked to do extraordinary work, but there is no good support," explained Anies.

Previously reported, Ganjar Pranowo gave a five-value to the Ministry of Defense led by Prabowo Subianto. Meanwhile, Anies also gave a low value of 11 out of 100.

"You have also given an assessment of five for Indonesia's legal performance. The question is how much the score of the Ministry of Defense is from you," Anies asked Ganjar during a debate session held at Istora Senayan, Jakarta.

Responding to that, Ganjar said the value that deserves to be given is only five. The reason is that the defense sector must be consistently corrected and listen to all dimensions.

Ganjar then asked the same question to his opponent. "Mas Anies, don't be afraid. Call it what number, like me, let's say," said the former Governor of Central Java.

"11 out of 100," said Anies with a smile.
