Mahfud: Can Receive Money, But When Mencoblos Joins Conscience

JAKARTA - Indonesian Vice Presidential Candidate Mahfud Md. reminded the public that on voting day, Wednesday (14 February 2024), they can vote by following conscience even though they have received money from certain candidates.

"It's okay for people to give money, it's okay, but on voting day, in the voting room, please vent your conscience," Mahfud said while giving a speech at the declaration of support by the Betawi Rempug Forum (FBR) and the Madura Family Association (Ikama) in the Cakung area, Jakarta, Saturday (6/1).

Therefore, Mahfud invited the people who were present at the event to tell each other to continue to choose by following their conscience on February 14.

"You tell the people. They can be given basic necessities, they can be given money, receive the money. However, when voting, they must come, follow what all religions teach, namely participating in whispers of conscience," he said.

The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) also told the masses present to inform the public that elections are the right moment to improve the country.

"Let us tell the public that the election is the right time for the people to improve their country by choosing leaders. Whether it is in the legislature or in the executive. Whether it is in the DPR, DPD, and DPRD, as well as the president/vice president and regional heads. This is the election that will determine. To remember, to make that choice, don't sell your pride at low prices," he said.

The former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) reminded the public to be able to choose the best by conducting many consultations.

"I want to improve this country, I want to improve this country. Therefore, choose the best. Who is the best? You can have a lot of consultations, yes," said Mahfud.
