ISIS Claims Deadly Attack In Kerman, Commander Of Iran's Revolutionary Guard: We'll Find You

JAKARTA - Senior Tehran officials confirmed they had the ability to claim ISIS responsibility after the group claimed responsibility for the deadly attack on the anniversary of the death of one of Iran's charismatic generals.

The mourners on Friday delivered the bodies of the victims of two deadly explosions in the city of Kerman, the bloodiest attack in Iran since the 1979 Revolution.

At least 89 people died as a result of two explosions during the commemoration of the death of Iran's Quds IRGC Force Commander Major General Qasem Soleimani who died as a result of the United States drone strike in Iraq in 2020.

ISIS said on Thursday its two members had detonated an explosive belt amid a crowd of people gathering near a tomb in the city of Kerman.

"We will find you wherever you are," said Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) Commander Major General Hossein Salami, during a funeral at Imam Ali's religious center in Kerman.

Meanwhile, President Ebrahim Raisi said in a televised address, "Our troops will decide the place and time to take action".

Separately, Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi told state TV that a number of suspects had been arrested.

"Our state intelligence agencies have found excellent clues regarding the elements involved in the terrorist explosions in Kerman. Some of those involved in this incident have been arrested," he said without elaborating.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Majid Mirahmadi said: "Various individuals have been arrested in five cities in five provinces, which have supported this incident or are related to it. The details will be announced in the next few hours," according to the state news agency.

It is known, ISIS claimed responsibility for the deadly attack on a Shiite holy place in Iran that killed 15 people in 2022. Earlier attacks claimed by ISIS included twin bombings in 2017 targeting Iranian parliament and the tomb of the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
