SUMBAR - Pemerintah Kota (Pemkot) Pariaman mengimbau warga di wilayahnya menggunakan masker di luar ruangan guna menghindari dampak rupsi Gunung Marapi yang terus terjadi.

Head of the Pariaman City Health Office (Dinkes), Nazifah said the action was in an effort to prevent health problems.

"We have issued an appeal more than a week ago for residents to reduce activities outside the room and when they leave the room they are asked to wear masks," said in Pariaman, West Sumatra (West Sumatra), Friday, January 5, as reported by Antara.

He said, before the appeal was issued, there were already residents who used masks while driving, according to him, because of the awareness of residents in the area who felt the dust from the eruption of Mount Marapi.

The Pariaman City Government, he continued, also reduced outdoor activities to reduce the impact of the eruption on health. Activities outside the room will be carried out if previously the area was raining.

He said that recently Pariaman residents had a lot of coughs and fever, but his party could not confirm that it was purely caused by the eruption of Mount Marapi because it coincided with weather changes.

"We cannot confirm the cause of the cough experienced by residents at this time because of the eruption of dust or not, because the current weather is also uncertain," he said.

He hopes that residents in the area will follow the advice issued by the local government so that disasters that occur will not have an impact on health.

From observations this morning, a number of vehicles and other equipment outside the room were attached to volcanic ash due to the impact of the eruption of Mount Marapi.

In addition, Minangkabau International Airport in Padang Pariaman Regency was closed again at around 10:45 WIB, Friday, January 5. The closure was due to volcanic ash from the eruption of Mount Marapi to the airport area.

The mountain, which is located in Agam and Tanah Datar Regencies, has erupted since Sunday, December 3, 2023, by causing 24 people to die.
