Indonesian Citizens In Germany To Vote On February 10

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Berlin Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) Roni Susman said that his party would carry out a vote for the 2024 General Election using the postal method on January 10, 2024 and the TPS method on February 10, 2024.

Roni said the Mobile Sound Box (KSK) method would not be implemented in Germany, because the KPU considered the postal service in Germany to be very good.

The postal service in Germany is very good. So, ballots will be sent via post one day will arrive. Therefore, the KPU did not approve the proposal to open the Mobile Voice Box," said Roni as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 3.

He said the number of voters through TPS at PPLN Berlin was 4,049 people, while the number of voters through the post was 496 people. The largest number of voters, namely 1,075 people, was in Berlin.

Of the total 4,545 voters, there were 2,159 male voters and 2,386 female voters.

The work area of PPLN Berlin is spread across six German states: Berlin, Brandenburg, Sachsen-Anhalt, Niedersachsen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, and Th\"uringen.

According to Roni, about 60 percent of voters in Berlin are students and the rest are workers. Of all student voters, almost 23 percent of them are students who are undergoing pre-student preparations (Studenenkoleg).

He said that the most effective socialization to reach novice voters is working with a hobby community such as sports and culture.

PPLN Berlin also took advantage of the existence of the Indonesian Student Association (PPI) of Germany to hold an election dialogue in order to educate and mitigate the potential for a high Gliput (white class) due to ignorance of the existence of elections.

Roni admits that the biggest obstacle faced is the relatively low concern of novice voters and insufficient literacy about democracy in Indonesia.

The task of PPLN Berlin is to educate them to be willing to vote and open awareness that Indonesia is built by democratic values.

Regarding election logistics, Roni said that ballots had been received by the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin on December 28, 2023 and had been submitted to PPLN Berlin on December 29, 2023.
