Needdem Asks Central Jakarta Bawaslu To Be Independent And Seriously Handle The Gibran Case

JAKARTA - Researcher of the Association for Elections and Democracy (Perludem) Kahfi Adlan Hafiz asked the Central Jakarta City Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to be independent in handling cases of alleged campaign violations committed by cawapres number 2 Gibran Rakabuming Raka.

"We encourage a fair and independent attitude. If a violation is found, it must be taken seriously," said Kahfi, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 3.

According to Kahfi, Bawaslu, as an agency that oversees the election, must have the courage to investigate the alleged campaign in Gibran's action to distribute milk on a day free from motorized vehicles (CFD) along Jalan MH Thamrin and Bundaran Hotel Indonesia, Central Jakarta, Jakarta, on December 3, 2023. 2023.

Kafipun believes that what Gibran did at that time was a campaign activity, which should have been prohibited from being carried out during CFD. However, this belief must be supported by facts from the results of the Central Jakarta City Bawaslu examination.

"I believe this is a political campaign if for example there is a process of distributing milk; but if you are present at CFD, this will not be a problem," he said.

Not only that, Kahfi also asked Bawaslu to be firm in examining other figures involved in the distribution of the milk.

He hopes that the handling carried out by Bawaslu will not be hindered by intervention from certain parties, so that the 2024 presidential election can run honestly and fairly.

"When there have been many violations of politics, yes, what do we want to hope about this election?" he said.

The CFD area is an area that cannot be a campaign location, as stipulated in Article 7 of the Regulation of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Number 12 of 2016 concerning the Implementation of Motor Vehicle Free Day.

This provision stipulates that the CFD area should not be used for the benefit of political parties; activities are ethnic, religious, racial, and intergroup (SARA); as well as incitement speeches.
