JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) has asked the Ganjar-Mahfud National Winning Team (TPN) to complete evidence to thoroughly investigate the case of volunteers who were victims of persecution by TNI members in Boyolali, Central Java (Central Java).

"Earlier, from the report, we still have several things that we need to explore. For example, we need a more detailed chronology from the legal team," said Komnas HAM Deputy Head of Internal Affairs Komnas HAM Pramono Ubaid Tantowi in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 3, as reported by Antara.

Pramono said Komnas HAM had received a complaint from the candidate pair of presidential and vice-presidential candidates number 3 Ganjar-Mahfud. Those who asked that the case that occurred on December 30, 2023 be investigated thoroughly.

However, in its resolution, Pramono admitted that there were still many pieces of evidence that had to be completed by TPN Ganjar-Mahfud so that the analysis of the chronology of events could be well-ordered. The evidence needed is a visum copy from the victims to a copy of the video on the local CCTV.

"We will continue to coordinate with the legal team so that the incident can be complete. From there, we will analyze whether from this incident there was a human rights violation or not. So, indeed we still need some evidence which was promised by the legal team," he said.

He also revealed the possibility of Komnas HAM conducting a direct investigation by meeting the victim or related agencies. This depends on the completeness of the evidence provided by the complainant team.

Regarding the request for issuance of a letter of protection to the victim and his family, Pramono explained that this was a quick response built by Komnas HAM to provide a sense of security for victims of a case and will be conveyed to the organization that houses victims or perpetrators with the aim of growing the attention of their officials.

"Of course we will also see this case first. We are waiting for the completeness of the evidence. From there, we will consider how urgent we issue a letter of protection. This is the concern of Komnas HAM so that the victims feel calm because in the end they will be witnesses when the court is held," he said.

Pramono advised that the incident of violence in Boyolali could be a concern for law enforcement officials to maintain their neutrality, not abuse power by committing acts of violence or using dirty methods to win a candidate. This includes cases of abuse that occurred in Yogyakarta until the victim died.

He asked all parties not to discriminate, intimidate, or acts of violence during the 2024 General Election.

Komnas HAM also ensures that complaints booths for the public continue to be opened so that victims can report the case for immediate follow-up.

"Komnas HAM has opened itself up to receive such complaints without us from Komnas HAM intending or being included in the technical issue of election which is the domain of Bawaslu or the Constitutional Court which handles disputes over election results," he said.
