The Burnt Building Shop Caught Fire Due To An Electric Short Circuit In The Employee Room

The fire incident hit a shop selling building materials on Jalan Gardu 2A, RT 09/03, Balekambang Village, Kramat Jati District, East Jakarta on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, afternoon. It was later discovered that the material shop belonged to a resident named Johan (54).

"The object caught fire by a building material shop. The cause of the fire was an electrical short," said Head of East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept., Gatot Sulaeman when confirmed.

The flames accompanied by thick smoke billowing in the air and burning all parts of the material. Even the fire also caused an explosion sound.

East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept. officers who arrived at the location immediately tried to extinguish the fire so as not to spread to residents' houses crowded with materials from the material store.

The fire was triggered by an electrical short on the second floor while the material workers were working. The flames then spread and burned all the contents in the material such as coat paint and other flammable materials.

"It is suspected that the fire came from the employee room on the second floor. The area burned was about 120 square meters with a loss of Rp. 500 million," he said.

The process of extinguishing the fire was completed at around 11.48 WIB with a total of 68 personnel and 17 fire engines. Luckily, there were no casualties or injuries as a result of the fire incident.
