KENDARI - Former Mayor of Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi Sulkarnain Kadir was sentenced to acquittal by the Kendari District Court (PN) for the alleged corruption case of PT Midi Utama Indonesia (MUI).

Chairman of the Panel of Judges, Sera Achmad, said that the former Mayor of Kendari Sulkarnain Kadir was declared not legally and convincingly proven to have committed a criminal act of corruption.

"The defendant Sulkarnain Kadir, SE., Me was not legally proven guilty in the public prosecutor's indictment. So hereby declare the defendant acquitted of all charges and demands of the public prosecutor," Sera said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 27.

Responding to this, Sulkarnain Kadir's legal adviser, Baron Harahap expressed his gratitude for the decision handed down by the Kendari Corruption Court Panel of Judges.

"We are grateful that the judge acquitted Mr. SK (Sulkarnain Kadir). We have predicted this free decision from the start, because the facts of the trial did not lead to any acts or unlawful involvement of Mr. SK," said Baron.

He hopes that the Public Prosecutor (JPU) of the Southeast Sulawesi High Prosecutor's Office (Kejati) will not appeal to the Supreme Court.

"We hope that the public prosecutor will not file an appeal, but if they file an appeal, then we will face it legally professionally," he explained.

Previously, former Kendari Mayor Sulkarnain Kadir, a suspect in the alleged corruption case of PT Midi Utama Indonesia (MUI), was detained at the Kendari State Detention Center (Rutan) after being questioned by investigators from the Southeast Sulawesi High Prosecutor's Office.
