JAKARTA - The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reported an eruption in the form of volcanic ash ejections as high as approximately 1,000 meters or 1 kilometer out of the crater of Mount Lewotobi Laki in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.Opers of the Observation Post Mount Lewotobi Male, Anselmus Bobyson Lamanepa said the eruption occurred at 05.57 WITA and had a maximum amplitude of 37 millimeters with a duration of 214 seconds. "The ash column was observed gray with thick intensity to the north," said Anselmus, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, December 27. Anselmus recommends that people around the volcano not be active or within a radius of two kilometers from the crater center. In addition, he also appealed to the public not to approach the gas seepage hole around the crater to avoid potential hazards of toxic gas. Lewotobi Mountain is a twin volcano located in the southeastern part of Flores Island. The mountain consists of two peaks, namely Mount Lewotobi Male and Mount Lewotobi Peres.

Since December 17, 2023, the status of the active volcanic activity level which has a height of 1,584 meters above sea level is at level II or alert. PVMBG monitors visually and instrumentally Mount Lewotobi Male from the observation post located in Pullula Village, Wulanggitang District, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.
