BPOM Reports Findings Of 86,034 Expired Food Products To Without Circulation Permits

JAKARTA - The Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BPOM) reported the findings of the intensification of food supervision ahead of Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024, where there are 86,034 products that do not meet the criteria (TMK).

Of the 86,034 products that were TMK, 52.90 percent of products without distribution permits (TIE), 41.41 percent expired, and 5.69 percent of products were damaged.

"BPOM is committed to always being present to protect the public from unsafe and quality food circulation through routine and special supervision and prosecution, to provide peace to the community during special celebrations such as Christmas and New Year like this," said BPOM Task Force Lucia Rizka Andalusia as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, December 21.

Rizka explained, during the Christmas, New Year, or Lebaran conditions, the intensity of food circulation was increasing, so to anticipate this BPOM held an intensification of food surveillance.

This activity was held at 76 BPOM UPT throughout Indonesia from December 1, 2023 to January 2024, in 731 types of distribution facilities examined.

Of these 731 facilities, 29.98 percent were found by TMK products, with distribution of types of distribution facilities examined at modern retail facilities 16.16 percent, traditional retail facilities 12.18 percent, distributor warehouses 1.48 percent, electronic trading warehouses or e-commerce 0.12 percent, and import warehouses 0.04 percent.

The economic value of TMKyakni's food products is IDR 1.638 billion, with details without a distribution permit of IDR 1.339 billion, an expiration date of IDR 253 billion, and a damage of IDR 44 billion.

Meanwhile, the most illegal product findings from 76 UPT at BPOM throughout Indonesia are mostly produced from China, India, Malaysia, Thailand, the United States, Brazil, and Singapore.
