KPU Allows Vice Presidential Candidates To Join Papers And Pena In The 2nd Podium Debate Of The Presidential Election

The General Elections Commission (KPU) has allowed vice presidential candidates (cawapres) to bring stationery in the form of paper and pens to be placed on the podium during the 2024 presidential election debate.

This was conveyed by KPU Chairman Hasyim Asy'ari during a press conference at the KPU Office, Jakarta, Thursday, December 21. The second debate between the 2024 presidential elections will be held at the Jakarta Convention Center Convention Center, Jakarta, Friday, December 22.

"On the podium, the opportunity was given to prepare stationery, (in the form of) bolpoin and paper," said Hasyim.

However, he emphasized that other tools, such as telepromters and tablet computers, were not brought to the debate podium.

He explained that in the first debate, presidential candidates did not use any tools at all. In fact, the presidential candidates did not use the podium when arguing.

"Alhamdulillah, all our presidential candidates are in good health, fit and fit, able to stand from the initial debate sessions to the end," he explained.

Earlier on Monday, December 18, the KPU approved the results of input from each campaign team for presidential and vice presidential candidates to provide podiums for the 2024 election presidential and vice presidential candidates debate.

"We have mutually agreed on yesterday's records or evaluations, including all teams of candidate pairs submitting proposals that in the second debate later and so on, each up to the fifth debate, a simple podium was prepared as a means to appear," said Chairman of the Indonesian KPU Hasyim Asy'ari in Jakarta, Monday 18 December.

Therefore, the addition of the podium is one of the things that distinguishes the second debate, which brings together between vice presidents, from the first debate of the previous presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, regarding the debate mechanism, Hasyim said the KPU was still using a similar format to the first debate on December 12, 2023.

The KPU has determined three participants in the 2024 presidential election, namely the Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar pair number 1, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka number 2, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD number 3.

The three pairs of candidates for the 2024 presidential election will face a debate that will take place five times during the campaign period.

The second debate for the vice presidential candidate is scheduled to take place on December 22, 2023 at the Senayan JCC, with topics related to the economy, finance, investment, taxes, trade, and state budget.
