Indonesia Is Predicted To Be A Corruption Emergency If This Vice President Candidate Is Elected

JAKARTA - General Chairperson of the National Network of Activists (Jarnas) 98, Sangap Surbakti urged the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to continue two corruption cases that dragged the former Minister of Manpower and Transmigration, Muhaimin Iskandar, who is now running as a candidate for Vice President to accompany Anies Baswedan.

"Muhaimin was named several times in court by the perpetrators of corruption who had been named a defendant by the Court. It is fitting for the KPK to follow up on this," said Sangap Surbakti in a written statement in Jakarta, Thursday, December 21.

Sangap further explained that corruption in Indonesia was very acute. Evidently, a number of regional administrators until the state for the 2019-2024 period were arrested by the KPK and have been found guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption by the court. The bad record will be extended if Muhaimin comes out as the winner of the 2024-2029 presidential election.

"If Muhaimin wins the presidential election, of course Indonesia has a corruption emergency. Law enforcement by the KPK will definitely stagnate. Because the highest leadership has indicated corruption, the subordinates under him are relaxed if it is corruption, that's the simple logic," said Sangap, who also serves as deputy commander of the Charlie TKN team.

In Sangap's notes, Muhaimin is indicated to be involved in two corruption cases, namely the Indonesian Manpower Protection (TKI) system abroad and the disbursement of funds to accelerate regional infrastructure development at the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration or better known as the durian cardboard case.

"The defendants mentioned Muhaimin's name several times in court. This can become a legal fact and the KPK deserves to develop it. But for some reason the KPK is slow to carry out its functions," said Sangap.

The lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Kristen Indonesia (UKI) added that the re-investigation of the corruption case allegedly involving Muhaimin was believed to be able to restore the dignity of the KPK which has now been in disarray due to two commissioners in 2029-2023 stopping midway due to ethical violations and criminal cases.

"If the KPK is unable to resolve the case that allegedly dragged Muhaimin into court, the KPK's dignity has been destroyed, which has previously been destroyed," he said.
