Alexander Marwata Claims To Have Received The Presidential Decree On The Extension Of The Position Of KPK Leader

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Alexander Marwata claims to have accepted the Presidential Decree (Keppres) regarding the extension of the term of office of the KPK leadership.

It is known that the term of office of the KPK leadership has increased to five years. This extension occurred after the Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Nurul Ghufron, conducted a judicial review at the Constitutional Court (MK) some time ago.

"Yes, it was two weeks ago (the Presidential Decree was accepted, ed)," Alexander told reporters at the KPK's Red and White building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Wednesday, December 20.

It did not specify when the presidential decree was in his hands. He only answered briefly when asked whether or not the letter was given by the Presidential Decree on the Temporary Dismissal of Firli Bahuri as Chairman of the KPK and the appointment of Nawawi Pomolango as the Temporary Chair of the KPK.

"Yes, yes (giving in conjunction with Presidential Decree Nawawi, ed)," he said.

As previously reported, the Constitutional Court (MK) knocked on the judicial review submitted by the Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Nurul Ghufron, on Thursday, May 25. This decision made the head of the anti-corruption commission currently in office until 2024.

Apart from Firli et al, the KPK Supervisory Board will also extend its term of office. "According to the 112/PUU-XX/2022 decision, the change in term to 5 years also applies to the KPK Supervisory Board, which currently serves from the original 4 years of office," said MK spokesman Fajar Laksono in his written statement, Friday, May 26.

There were several considerations in the decision. Among them, for the sake of alignment, because the four-year term scheme, recruitment was carried out twice, namely December 2019 and December 2023.
