JAKARTA - The Ministry of State-Owned Corporation (BUMN) continues to encourage the involvement of the millennial generation and women's representation at the top leadership of state-owned companies. Efforts are continually being made in the BUMN environment so that it can be realized.

BUMN Minister Erick Thohir said that after receiving a mandate from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) as the minister of BUMN, one of the legations that wanted to be realized was the fundamental progress of BUMN today into the future.

To achieve this, said Erick, the younger generation, especially millennials, need to fill the position of directors of state-owned companies. Therefore, the Ministry of BUMN made a breakthrough by providing opportunities for the millennial generation to sit on the board of directors.

"The Ministry of BUMN provides the opportunity for the millennial generation to sit on the board of directors with a target of 5 percent of all directors in BUMN," he said, at the 'Indonesia Young Business Leaders' event, Thursday, February 18.

Not only millennials, but Erick also encourages the involvement of women in BUMN. He targets 15 percent of the board of directors and commissioners of State-Owned Corporation.

"While the target for women's representation is 15 percent in the ranks of Board Of Commissioner (BOC), Board Of Directors (BOD) minus 1, this is not just encouraging, I even make the percentage of representation of the younger generation and women as KPIs for BUMN directors in carrying out this target", he said.

Erick said that the young generation is the driving force in this modern era, both as consumers and as human resources (HR) in companies. Therefore, Erick makes millennials' and women's representation as Key Performance Indicators (KPI) or the main performance of BUMN directors.

"At present or in the future, young leaders and representatives of the younger generation are needed in designing the products and solutions provided as well as in determining company policies so that management positions", he said.

The former Inter Milan boss thinks that this is such a dynamic period with complexity and ambiguity. This dynamic requires each company to be adaptive and have a competitive advantage. This can be answered with the hands and heads of the younger generation of young leaders.

"This requires every company (including BUMN) to be adaptive and have a competitive advantage. We need the spirit to be adaptable and always look for breakthroughs that the young generation and young leaders have", he said.
