The Movement Of Jabodetabek Residents At The End Of The Year Is Predicted At 14.81 Million People

JAKARTA - The Jabodetabek Transportation Management Agency (BPTJ) of the Ministry of Transportation projects the movement of the Jabodetabek people during the 2023 Christmas and Christmas New Year 2024 holidays to reach 14.81 million people.

This number is 43.92 percent of the total population of Jabodetabek.

"Jabodetabek movement has a population of around 14.81 million people," said BPTJ Transport Director Tatan Rustandi as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, December 11.

BPTJ noted that during the Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024, West Java was the most destination area from Jabodetabek with a total of 26.39 percent or 3.91 million people.

Meanwhile, from the regions most Jabodetabek travelers, namely Bogor Regency, West Java with a total of 2.39 million people or 16.16 percent.

"From the results of a study by the Transportation Policy Agency, we can see that the most destinations are 3.91 million Bogor travelers, so, in Jabodetabek the problem is not an intercity problem but a commuting issue in the Jabodetabek area so we are wary of tourism areas," said Tatan.

Meanwhile, BPTJ also predicts that the peak of the homecoming flow will occur on 22, 23, and 30 December 2023. Meanwhile, the peak of backflow is predicted to occur on December 26, 2023, January 1, 2024, and January 2, 2024.

In addition, BPTJ also estimates that the movement during Christmas 2023 and New Year's 2024 Jabodetabek will be dominated by 33.36 percent of private cars or 4.94 million vehicles.

Next, the most routes selected by Jabodetabek private car users, namely the Trans Java Toll Road and the Jagorawi Toll Road. Meanwhile, Jabodetabek motorcycle users choose the Bogor-Puncak-Cianjur route as their favorite route.

BPTJ also explained several points related to policies and strategies during the Christmas 2023 and New Year 2024 transportation periods in the Jabodetabek area, namely the transportation capacity of public vehicles according to vehicle technical specifications, restrictions on operational transportation of goods.

Furthermore, there are no travel document requirements, no travel restrictions for state civil servants (ASN) and families as well as the implementation of traffic engineering management (MRLL) on toll roads: contra flow and closure/restriction area.

BPTJ also revealed that the time for restrictions on the operation of certain goods transportation on toll roads is as follows.

The first stage (Christmas 2023 holiday) is the homecoming period on December 22, 2023 at 00.00 WIB to December 24, 2023 at 24.00 WIB. Then, the return flow period on December 26, 2023 at 00.00 WIB to December 27, 2023 at 08.00 WIB

The second stage (of the 2024 New Year holidays) is the period of homecoming on December 29, 2023, from 00.00 WIB to December 30, 2023 at 24.00 WIB. Then, the return flow period on January 1, 2024 at 00.00 WIB to January 2, 2024 at 08.00 WIB.

Meanwhile, vehicles that are diverted by traffic flow, namely heavy number of goods cars (JBI) more than 14,000 kg, goods cars with three axes or more, attached trains, carriages and goods cars carrying excavated materials (land, sand, rocks), mining materials, and building materials such as iron, cement, and wood.

Meanwhile, exceptions to the diversion of traffic flow for goods cars, namely fuel oil (BBM) or gas fuel, livestock, fertilizer, delivery of money and basic ingredients (rice, wheat flour, corn, sugar, vegetables and fruits, meat, fish, poultry meat, milk, eggs, salt, soybeans, onions, chili, cooking oil, and butter).
