PAPUA - Jayapura Regency Government (Pemkab) asked residents not to pollute Lake Sentani by disposing of garbage.
Head of the Jayapura Regency Environment Agency, Abdulrahman Basri, said that the community must dispose of the garbage in its place so that it can be transported by officers.
“ Don't throw garbage carelessly, because during the rainy season garbage can clog the waterway so that it can pollute Lake Sentani,” he said in Sentani, Antara, Friday, December 8.
Lake Sentani must be preserved because the local indigenous people depend on the lake for their life.
"The Sentani people live from the lake so that we as residents of the city must preserve it by not littering," he said.
He explained that Lake Sentani is not only a place to find food but also tourist attractions, both foreign and local tourists.
"“ Just try to take a walk to the lake, there is a lot of plastic waste and drink bottles sent from the city residents, even though many people depend on the lake for their lives," he said.
He added that the waste disposal schedule in Sentani City was clear, it was just a matter of how the community followed the schedule.
"In addition to the cleaning services that we continue to do in Sentani City, waste management in the lake is also carried out, this is done solely to create the cleanliness and beauty of this city," he said.
