BNN Head Martinus Hukom's Promise To Poor Drug Dealers

JAKARTA - Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Martinus Hukom, who was just appointed by President Joko Widodo, admitted that he would try to make drug dealers fall into poverty by stopping supplies, demand and financial support.

"There are three things that need attention related to drug trafficking, namely supply, demand and financial support. We have to stop those three, we are poor for these drug dealers," said Martinus as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, December 8.

This was conveyed by Martinus after being inaugurated by President Joko Widodo as Head of BNN at the State Palace, Jakarta.

He said the involvement of law enforcement officers and state civil servants could make drug networks stronger. Therefore, he will not tolerate the involvement of members of the National Police/TNI and Civil Servants, in drug trafficking.

"So we have to weaken all structures, all these networks. We must also weaken their financial resources so that they do not have the slightest opportunity to carry out drug trafficking," he said.

He said he would take firm action against the law enforcement officers involved.

"Before I came here I coordinated with the National Police Chief. I asked for his support to resolve it into the structure," he explained.

The head of the National Narcotics Agency will also meet with the TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto to ask for similar support.

"Likewise with ASN, I will also coordinate with the Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment (and Bureaucratic Reform), and other ministers who may be able to help clean up the structure," he said.
