PAN Rejects The Proposal Of The Governor Of Jakarta Appointed By The President

Deputy Chairperson of the National Mandate Party DPP Yandri Susanto stated that his party rejected the proposed appointment of the governor of DKI Jakarta Province by the president in the Draft Jakarta Special Region Law (RUU DKJ).

"The proposal contained in the DKJ Bill, particularly regarding the appointment of governors, must be discussed openly and comprehensively. We at PAN today expressly state that we reject this," Yandri said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, December 7.

The deputy chairman of the MPR said the provisions contained in the DKJ Bill regulate that the governor and deputy governor of the Special Region of Jakarta be appointed, appointed and dismissed by the president, taking into account the DPRD's proposal.

This does not reflect the spirit of people's sovereignty because people should be given the right to directly elect their regional heads.

"Even with the loss of the status of the capital city in Jakarta, we propose that the mayor and regent in Jakarta be directly elected by the people through the regional elections, and formed by the city and district level DPRD in Jakarta Province," he emphasized.

Yandri conveyed that the spirit of placing the people in a noble position by giving the right to vote or being elected to the election and regional elections will be felt backwards.

"Jakarta when it became the capital city was held by regional elections at the provincial level, but why when it was not the capital city, was the governor appointed?" Yandri questioned.

Previously, the DPR plenary meeting on Tuesday (5/12), ratified the DKJ Bill as a bill for the DPR initiative.

Of the nine factions in the DPR RI, the PKS faction stated that it did not approve of the ratification. After being ratified, the DKJ Bill will then be discussed with the government.
