JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights (Wamenkumham) Eddy Omar Sharif Hiariej or Eddy Hiariej was canceled as a suspect at the Red and White building of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Thursday, December 7.

Eddy's attorney, Ricky Sitohang, said that Eddy's absence today was due to illness.

"Let me clarify it first. Earlier we were ready, we were about to leave, then the Deputy Minister was already sick. There were a lot of drugs, he was sick," said Ricky Sitohang when contacted by ANTARA, Thursday, December 7.

Due to Eddy's condition, Eddy's attorney sent a letter requesting a postponement of Eddy's examination today to the KPK. Ricky revealed that Eddy took drugs that were suspected of being due to stress over his determination as a suspect.

"Finally we made a letter of application to the KPK to be postponed. So I signed with our two people (law enforcement teams). So please postpone it, it can't be present," explained Ricky.

"I also asked 'How is it? Is it strong or not?' to Mr. Eddy. I see a lot of medicine. Maybe it's stressful too, I don't know," said Ricky.

Ricky said that the legal team asked the KPK to provide a re-examination schedule for Eddy. He emphasized that his client was not absent, but for health reasons.

"So the point is not not not to come. It was with me. In a convex state too. So I can't force my client. So we made a letter of application to the KPK to postpone it. So that the schedule is rearranged," said Ricky.

As informed, Wamenkumham Eddy Hiariej should have been questioned by the KPK investigating team regarding cases of alleged bribery and gratuities within the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

The investigative team will dig up Eddy's statement as a suspect in the bribery case from private company PT Citra Lampia Mandiri (CLM Mining). Eddy is suspected of receiving Rp 7 billion from the former President Director of PT CLM Helmut Hermawan.

Meanwhile, the KPK has not yet provided to confirm whether it has received a letter of application for postponement of examination from Eddy Hiariej's side.

The KPK has scheduled an examination of Eddy Hiariej and has sent a summons and the letter has been received by Eddy Hiariej.

"That's right, the information we received from the investigative team this week, especially on Thursday, we summoned the suspects, including the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights, to attend the KPK's Red and White Building in its capacity as a suspect," said Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri.

Previously, Wednesday, December 6, Presidential Special Staff Coordinator Ari Dwipayana said Eddy Hiariej had submitted a letter of resignation from his position as Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights to President Joko Widodo.
