JAKARTA - Emir Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani said on Tuesday that the Gaza Strip was not a matter of Israel's security.

This was conveyed in his opening speech at the summit of the 44th Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) held in the capital Qatar, Doha.

"The challenge is not to solve Gaza's problems, as if it were a separate security issue or an Israeli security issue, requiring security arrangements subject to its requirements," the Qatari Emir said.

"The solution lies in ending the occupation (Israel) and solving the Palestinian people's problems," he added.

As previously reported, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh at a cabinet meeting in Ramallah said Israel was again trying to occupy the Gaza Strip and drafting plans to build a buffer zone in the region, something he firmly rejected and called for the international community to do the same.

"We are facing the re-invasion of the Gaza Strip and plans to build a buffer zone within it. We completely reject this plan and call on the rest of the world to reject it," the Palestinian news agency WAFA quoted a prime minister's statement as saying.

"The buffer zone damages the Gaza Strip, even though its territory must be expanded based on UN resolutions," he added.

According to PM Shtayyeh, the area of the bag used to be around 555 square kilometers, but currently it only covers 364 square kilometers.

Meanwhile, The Times of Israel reported, citing an Israeli official as saying the country had no plans to maintain troops in the enclave after the ground operation ended.

However, they are discussing the formation of a "security buffer zone" on the border with Gaza. According to the newspaper, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has conveyed this plan with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

It is known that the GCC, which was founded in 1981, consists of Qatar, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Kuwait.
