JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said Indonesia inevitably had to accept the arrival of Rohingya refugees. Because, there has been cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). "Previously there was an agreement, yes, that related to refugees entering the transiting country and going to the destination country, we inevitably have to accept it," Sigit told reporters at the National Police Headquarters, Tuesday, December 5. The Rohingya refugees are known to be in the Aceh region. They numbered more than 100 people. Their existence was rejected by local residents. Back to cooperation with UNHCR. Sigit said, it is regulated when the refugees can live in transiting countries. Until then continue their journey to their destination. "There has been an arrangement, how long it will take for the transit country and how long it will take to arrive at the destination country," he said. Apart from that, Sigit said that the most important thing was that people still had to respect the refugees. Because they really need help. "Of course we still have to respect, respect, human rights, respect other citizens who really need our help," said Sigit. Previously, it was reported that the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD emphasized that Indonesia only temporarily accommodated hundreds of Rohingya refugees. Moreover, according to Mahfud, Indonesia did not participate in signing the agreement on the shelter for refugees from Rohingya. This was conveyed by Mahfud MD after the government decided to accommodate Rohingya refugees who were adrift on a ship in the waters of Bireun, Aceh. "Indonesia actually does not participate as the party that signs or ratifies the refugee shelter. Because the United Nations has formed a UNHCR to regulate it," said Mahfud. However, the government's decision to accommodate hundreds of refugees consisting of women, children and men was based on a sense of humanity. In addition, Mahfud said, their condition was also concerning so it needed to be helped immediately. "They enter the waters and some want to die, some jump, some want to drown themselves because they are sick, some because if they are returned they should just die. Some are like that," said Mahfud.
