BANDUNG - The Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) held a campus and launched a mobile election surveillance car at the State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Gunung Djati (SGD) Bandung to maximize community participation in the 2024 General Election.

Commissioner and Coordinator of the Prevention, Community Participation and Public Relations Division of Bawaslu, Loly Suhenty explained that the Ngampuslu Bawaslu program was initiated to ensure that universities' civities get information and encourage participatory supervision.

"Because Bawaslu was given the mandate by law to increase participatory supervision, and this time at UIN SGD Bandung, which in its history gave birth to a lot of activists, we hope that UIN will be at the forefront to ensure that all levels of academic community including the surrounding community become participatory supervisors for the 2024 election," Loly said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, December 4.

This program, continued Loly, will also be implemented on other campuses, because currently the composition of young voters in the 2024 General Election is 52 percent of the total Permanent Voter List (DPT).

"This will run on other campuses, including campuses in Papua, so we hope that young voters will indeed attend and pay great attention to the election and contribute significantly to the election," he said.

Regarding the mobile election surveillance car named "The Mobile Supervision Corner Car", Loly also said as a catalyst to ensure that no violations occur at least in his own environment, by providing facilities for campus civities to strengthen election surveillance literacy, and forums for reporting alleged violations.

Moreover, said Loly, currently there are important stages in the election, namely campaigns.

"Hopefully, students can actively monitor the efforts of election participants to introduce themselves to the public in accordance with applicable laws and regulations," he said.

One thing students and other youth groups can do as actors in the 2024 General Election, is to supervise the spread of information on social media, or for the minimum, possibly not being a hoax spreader, a inciter who spread hate speech, and not being the one who receives money to influence choices.

"With our cellphones, we can all become actors in the 2024 General Election," he said.

Meanwhile, the Chancellor of UIN SGD Bandung, Rosihon Anwar, considered the positive selection of the UIN SGD Bandung campus as a follow-up to Bawaslu as a facility and source of information for the academic community there, but he wanted the participation of the regional Bawaslu.

"We hope that this event will not only be enough with today's seminars, but also Bawaslu, both at the provincial and district city levels, will continue to assist us to obtain important information related to election supervision and encourage us to participate in election supervision," said Rosihon.
