KUPANG - President Joko Widodo is scheduled to inaugurate the Catholic Church of Christ the King of the Kupang Cathedral, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), a religious infrastructure project financed from the state budget (APBN).

"According to the plan to build the Kupang Cathedral Church, President Joko Widodo is carried out," said Head of the NTT Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (PPW) Norman Wartabone in Kupang as reported by ANTARA, Monday, December 4.

The inauguration of the Church of Christ, King of the Kupang Cathedral, he said, was carried out in conjunction with the inauguration of the construction of the Kali Dendeng SPAM clean water facility in Kupang City.

"The Church of Christ, King of the Kupang Cathedral, has certainly been inaugurated by President Joko Widodo so that it can be used as a place of worship," he said.

The construction of the Church of Christ, King of the Kupang Cathedral, will begin in 2021 using the state budget (APBN) with a value of IDR 24.08 billion.

The Church of Christ King of the Kupang Cathedral was first built in 1962 and for approximately 60 years the church has never been built.

The construction of the Cathedral Church under the Kupang Archdiocese was carried out through the NTT Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW), Directorate General of Human Settlements since March 2022 after being damaged by the brunt of the Seroja tropical cyclone.

The scope of work includes construction of church buildings, Paroki secretariat buildings, bell towers, panel and generator rooms, Maria cave, tomb buildings, fences, page arrangement, electrical mechanics, and landscapes.

Security forces from the Police and the TNI have begun to provide security around the location of the Christ's Church, King of the Kupang Cathedral, before being inaugurated by President Jokowi on Wednesday (6/12).

Jokowi for three days starting from 4-6 December 2023 also made working visits to four regencies/cities in East Nusa Tenggara Province, namely West Manggarai Regency, Manggarai, Nagekeo and Kupang City.
