The Cianjur Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) deployed one heavy equipment unit and two units of dumb trucks to reopen the connecting road between sub-districts covered by landslides along the 100 meters in Wangunjaya Village, Cugenang District.

Head of BPBD Cianjur Asep Sukma Wijaya said rain with high intensity since Saturday, December 2, 2023, caused landslides to cover the road.

"Longsoran in the form of mud and large trees covered the entire 100 meter long road with an avalanche height of about three meters, so we immediately sent heavy equipment to get rid of landslide material because it was difficult to do manually," he said in Cianjur, West Java, December 3, which was confiscated by Antara.

Today, most of the landslide material has been successfully removed but the traffic flow has not been able to run normally because of the long landslides that blocked the road.

Asep said that his party had targeted that by Sunday, November 3 evening, it could be passed alternately.

"We are trying to pass normally on Monday because the road that is blocked by landslides is a fairly busy route for residents every day, especially during school hours and working hours," he said.

The head of Wangunjaya Village, Misbahudin, said that the breaking of the main road between sub-districts had paralyzed residents' activities because two-wheeled or four-wheeled vehicles could not pass, so his party hoped that the process of removing landslide material could be carried out quickly.

"The landslide occurred late in the evening after heavy rains from Saturday afternoon until evening, causing landslides to close all roads. There were no casualties but residents' activities were temporarily cut off," he said.

Meanwhile, for economic activities, especially residents who want to sell their produce to the city, since the last two days they have been forced to access alternative roads even though the distance is longer.

"We hope that road access can be opened normally today, so that on Monday residents' activities, especially school children, can run as usual. We also urge road users to remain careful and vigilant because the Wangunjaya area is prone to landslides," he said.
