JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi is looking for ways to thoroughly trace and anticipate the alleged leak of the Permanent Voter List (DPT) at the General Elections Commission (KPU).

He assigned the Directorate General of Informatics Applications of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Ditjen Aptika) to investigate the allegation.

"I have assigned the Director General of Aptika to conduct research on what the cause is and how to anticipate it," Budi Arie said, quoting Antara.

Budi Arie said that currently the Ministry of Communication and Informatics is coordinating with the General Elections Commission, the Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration of the Ministry of Home Affairs, to the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) to investigate the matter.

The Minister of Communication and Information emphasized that the alleged data leak must be a warning to all election organizers to strengthen data security and maintain the system better. The Minister of Communication and Information hopes that there will be no blaming or even discrediting the KPU.

"We don't want to blame, so we take care of it together, what is certain is that the perpetrators are being verified by law enforcement officials and this is also a warning for the KPU to maintain a better system," said Budie Arie.

Director General of Informatics Application Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan said he had asked the KPU for clarification by sending a letter via email.

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics, said Semuel, also conducted an initial search by collecting data that was already in the public. Semuel said that at this time they had not been able to conclude and enter the audit in depth.

"This is secondary data, we are collecting the data, both we take data on social media and we analyze the perpetrators," he said.

From the initial search, Director General Semuel stated that he had identified a similarity in the leaked data format to the DPT data processed by the KPU. However, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics has not been able to confirm the origin of the leaked data because it requires a more in-depth analysis.

"So, we haven't been able to enter yet, we need to investigate further. At this time it is too premature to determine anything before we get clarification as mandated by the law, namely PSE must give a response three days after we ask for clarification," said Semuel.

Previously, Commission I of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia specifically highlighted the alleged leak of DPT data. Deputy Chairman of Commission I Abdul Kharis Almasyhari stated that Indonesia now has Law Number 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection.

In this law, personal data managers are required to ensure the security of the personal data of the community they collect and manage.

KPU and other institutions that are personal data managers must provide explanations and security guarantees. On the other hand, law enforcement officers must also move in investigating the figure of the hacker and seller of the personal data," said Abdul Kharis.
