Responding To Megawati, Nusron: President Jokowi Chooses To Be A People's Officer Instead Of Party Officers

JAKARTA - Secretary of the Prabowo-Gibran National Campaign Team (TKN), Nusron Wahid, responded to the statement of PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri regarding the behavior of power such as the New Order.

According to Nusron, power can be considered like the power of the New Order if it has the same characteristics as the style of government during the New Order era.

He said that one of the characteristics of New Order's power is the centralization of power in the hands of one party.

"The signs of the New Order are when there was a centralization of power in the hands of one party. In the past, during the New Order era, power was only one party, now are these characteristics in Pak Jokowi? No," said Nusron when met at the TKN Prabowo-Gibran media center, Sriwijaya Street, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, Tuesday night.

He explained that power is currently decentralized to various parties. This can be seen from the ministerial position held by figures from various political parties.

"This power is decentralized to various parties. The Coordinating Minister for the Economy is from Golkar, then the Minister of State Apparatus is from PDIP," he added.

Nusron considers Megawati's statement to be anxiety as the parent and party leader carrying President Joko Widodo in the 2014 and 2019 Presidential Elections (Pilpres). Nusron said that Megawati hoped that President Jokowi would become a tool and official for certain political parties.

"So I think we respect Mrs. Mega, but the statement given by Mrs. Mega is a statement of anxiety as a parent, anxiety as a supporting party who happens to hope that Mr. Jokowi will be used as a tool for political parties and officers of certain political parties," he said.

"However, Pak Jokowi prefers to become state officials and people's officers rather than become political party officers," he continued.

Furthermore, Nusron said that Megawati's statement regarding the current behavior of power, such as the New Order era, was irrelevant because there were no similar characteristics to the New Order. He sees this from a number of aspects, from the aspect of freedom of speech to the existence of political parties.

"Thus, the existence of this statement becomes irrelevant if today this power is considered scary, threatening, who threatens this? Who is threatened?" he said.

"This name is spreading the illusion that will be created rich in a kind of psywar whose nature will be post-truth, which as if we never care about the law based on facts or illusions," he continued.

Previously, PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri revealed her annoyance with the government which was considered to have acted arbitrarily ahead of the 2024 presidential election. Megawati questioned the current authorities who seemed to be acting like the New Order era.

"Mother shouldn't have said that, but she was annoyed. For what reason, this Republic is full of sacrifices, do you know? Why now are you people who have just come to power willing to act like during the New Order era," Megawati said in her speech at a consolidation of volunteers supporting presidential and vice-presidential candidates Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD throughout Java at JiExpo, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, last Monday.
