PVMBG Urges Fishermen Not To Approach Krakatau Children's Island

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) appealed to fishermen not to land on Anak Krakatau Island to avoid the ejection of incandescent materials that can reach the island's coastline.

"We urge shipping activities and fishermen not to land on the island of Anak Krakatau and to be within more than five kilometers of the eruption center," said PVMBG Volcano Team Head Ahmad Basuki as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, November 28.

Throughout the day from 00.00 to 14.45 WIB, PVMBG reported the number of eruptions of Mount Anak Krakatau recorded seven times with the height of the ash column varying from 500 to 2,000 meters above the peak of the volcano in the Sunda Strait.

On November 27, 2023, for the period from 00.00 WIB to 24.00 WIB, PVMBG recorded 60 eruptions with an amplitude of 28-85 millimeters and an earthquake of 7-125 seconds.

Then, there were 46 harmonic earthquakes with an amplitude of 12-75 millimeters and long earthquakes of 16-532 seconds, 21 low-frequency earthquakes with an amplitude of 10-54 millimeters and long earthquakes of 3-11 seconds, five multi-phase earthquakes with an amplitude of 20-39 millimeters and long earthquakes of 5-11 seconds, as well as four continuous tremors with an amplitude of 1-45 millimeters.

Ahmad revealed that the characteristics of Mount Anak Krakatau generally after a significant increase in seismicity will be followed by an eruption within a few days until the next month.

This is a characteristic of Mount Anak Krakatau in recent years after an eruption that caused a tsunami in December 2018.
