432 Cadres Alerted Press Stunting Case Rates In Jayapura Papua

SENTANI - The government deployed 432 cadres who are members of the family's companion team to support efforts to prevent and deal with stunting in Jayapura Regency, Papua Province. According to the Head of Family Resilience and Family Empowerment Division of the Jayapura Regency Population and Family Control Office, Yus Ivone Sokoy, a family companion team (TPK) consisting of a puskesmas midwife. The KB cadre or Family Planning Assistant for Villages, and PKK cadres were mobilized to support efforts to prevent and deal with stunting in 139 villages and five sub-districts in Jayapura Regency. "This TPK cadre will work to provide assistance to priority targets," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, November 27. According to him, PK's priority targets include families with brides, pregnant mothers, as well as children under five years of age. Yus said that TPK cadres are assigned to educate and assist target groups in carrying out stunting prevention and treatment efforts, conditions for failing to grow in children due to chronic malnutrition, repeated infections, and lack of stimulation. In addition to providing counseling, he said, TPK cadres are tasked with detecting stunting risk factors in the target families as well as facilitating target families accessing health services and social assistance programs. He said that TPK deployment is intended to support stunting prevention and treatment efforts starting from families.

These efforts were made to accelerate the reduction in stunting prevalence in Jayapura Regency, which according to the results of the 2022 Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey is still 20.24 percent. Meanwhile, the central government targets the prevalence of stunting to be reduced to 14 percent by 2024.
