Anti-Islam Party Said to Have Defeated Human Rights in the Netherlands

AMSTERDAM - The Dutch branch of Amnesty International assesses that "human rights have lost ground" in the country after the far-right, anti-Islam Freedom Party (PVV) won the general election held on November 22.

"Yesterday human rights lost. A racist party won the Dutch election. This party labeled parts of society as inferior and excluded them," said the human rights group on social media X, as quoted by Antara from Anadolu.

Highlighting the PVV's anti-immigrant stance, Amnesty International pointed out that the election manifesto of the party led by Greet Wilders undermines the rule of law and the constitution.

Amnesty International affirms its commitment to continue fighting for human rights for all people at all times.

In the 2021 election, the PVV won 17 seats in parliament, increasing the number of seats to 37.

Another right-wing party, Forum for Democracy led by Thierry Baudet, lost five seats compared to the 2021 election, reducing its seats to three. Meanwhile, the number of seats for the JA21 Party fell from 3 to 1.

The number of members of parliament for the Socialist Party, led by Lilian Marijnissen, decreased by 4 seats compared to the 2021 election to 5 seats.

Farmers' Citizen Movement Party which won the most seats in the Dutch Senate

and won one seat in the DPR in 2021, now has 7 seats.
