Hamas Leader Haniyeh Claims Ceasefire In Gaza Political Victory, Iranian Foreign Minister Calls Israel And US Failed

JAKARTA - Senior Hamas leader claimed the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip was a victory when he met Iranian Foreign Ministers, with Tehran praising the struggle of the militant group he acknowledged had a major impact.

Meeting Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in Doha, Qatar, Ismail Haniyeh said his party received a political victory from a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

"The ceasefire is a political victory achieved as a result of the success of the strength of the resistance on the ground. Our enemy killed women, children and other civilians and destroyed their homes, but was never able to achieve their goals," Haniyeh said.

On the occasion, Haniyeh also expressed his appreciation for the support from the Iranian government, president and people for Palestine, especially during the conflict in Gaza, quoted from Press TV.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Abdollahian agreed with the assessment based on the performance of the Israeli army.

"Israel said that the purpose of the attack on Gaza was to destroy Hamas. However, after more than a month of aggressive military action, Israel and the US still failed to achieve success and had to negotiate with Hamas for the ceasefire and the release of hostages," the news agency wrote, citing Foreign Minister Abdollahian.

He also congratulated the resistance, resilience and victory of the Palestinian people and Gazans during Israel's latest aggression.

"The consequences of the Hurricane al-Aqsa Operation rocked the world," he said.

It is known that Hamas and Israel on Wednesday reached an agreement to release at least 50 hostages, while Israel released 150 Palestinian prisoners, following negotiations with Qatari mediators, as well as Egypt and the United States. The process was carried out in stages for four days, with a ceasefire carried out during the process.

Had pushed back a day, the process of releasing hostages and detainees followed by a ceasefire began on Friday. The ceasefire began this morning at local time. The release of hostages and detainees was carried out in the afternoon. In the first phase, 13 Israeli hostages were released, while on the other hand 39 Palestinian prisoners were also released (24 women and 15 teenage boys).
