DKI KPU Makes People With Disabilities Comfortable When Choosing At TPS

JAKARTA - The General Election Commission (KPU) of DKI Jakarta Province ensures that residents with disabilities in Jakarta can use their voting rights comfortably like other residents during the 2024 General Election.

Head of the DKI Jakarta KPU Socialization, Voter Education and Community Participation Division, Astri Megatari, said that to make this happen, his party collected data on which polling stations (TPS) were on the list of voters with disabilities.

"The number of people with disabilities for the 2024 General Election is around 60 thousand people. We recorded that there are several types of disabilities and we mapped them so that later the polling stations with disabilities will adjust, for example, there should be no stairs or fines that are difficult for them to access," said Astri. reported by ANTARA, Friday, November 24.

Astri said that the DKI Jakarta Provincial KPU also prepared visually impaired tools at every existing polling station.

In addition, he continued, technical guidance (bimtek) will be held so that the polling group (KKPS) can increase its capacity in serving persons with disabilities.

"So, how do they handle blind voters, such as on their shoulders or being guided or so on," said Astri.

This, he said, includes how they can optimalize their services optimally, so that later people with disabilities can feel comfortable using their right to vote.

In addition, Astri said that his party was open to input and suggestions from the community in Jakarta, so that the implementation of the 2024 General Election could be better than the 2019 General Election.

Astri invites the public not to just elect legislative candidates as well as presidential and vice presidential candidates.

He appealed to the public to take advantage of the campaign period as a moment to get to know the candidates to be selected.

"Recognize his track record, recognize his vision and mission, which is the most suitable to be able to bring change and progress to the Indonesian nation. Don't believe hoax news, don't be easily consumed by fake news or hate speech," said Astri.

The 2024 election campaign period will take place from November 28, 2023 to February 10, 2024.
