Vice President Ma'ruf Amin Supports Firli Bahuri's Legal Process As A Suspect

JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin firmly gave his blessing on the legal process related to the appointment of KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri as a suspect in the alleged extortion of former Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL).

"This legal process must run according to the corridor, so that everything goes according to applicable regulations," said Vice President Ma'ruf when giving a response during his working visit to Athens, Greece, quoted from ANTARA, Friday, November 24.

Ma'ruf emphasized that the government will not interfere or intervene in legal cases involving Firli Bahuri.

"The government will not intervene in this kind of thing," he added.

Asked about public pressure for Firli Bahuri to resign from his position as Chairman of the KPK after being named a suspect, Ma'ruf stated that all these decisions would be left entirely to the applicable legal process.

"We'll just leave it to the legal process to determine what should be done," said Ma'ruf.

Previously, Polda Metro Jaya officially named KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri as a suspect in the alleged extortion case against former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL).

Firli was charged with Article 12e or Article 12B or Article 11 of Law 31/1999 which was amended by Law 20/2001 concerning Amendments to Law 31/1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption in conjunction with Article 65 of the Criminal Code. Firli faces the most severe sentence of life imprisonment.
