US Accusations Of Giving Israel's 'Green Light' Attack On Al-Shifa Gaza Hospital, Hamas: President Biden Responsible

JAKARTA - Palestinian militant group Hamas in a statement blamed Israel and the United States for the attack on Gaza Strip's largest hospital.

In addition to the two, Hamas also assessed that the Israeli raid on Al-Shifa Hospital was a failure by the United Nations in defending Palestinians.

"The UN's silence and betrayal of many countries and regimes will not deter Palestinians from defending their land and their legitimate national rights," Hamas said.

Hamas also said the United States gave Israel the 'green light' by supporting the narrative of the use of Al-Shifa Hospital as the center of command and control of the militant group.

"We consider the occupation (Israel) and President Biden to be fully responsible for the attack on the Al-Shifa medical complex," Hamas said, quoted by Al Jazeera.

"The application of false claims by the White House and the Pentagon that resistance using the Al-Shifa medical complex for military purposes has given the occupation the green light to carry out more massacres against civilians," the statement continued.

Earlier, the Israeli military said on Wednesday morning it was carrying out "precision and targeted operation" against the alleged Hamas command center under al-Shifa, where thousands of civilians took refuge.

According to medical staff, it is estimated that 650 patients are still being treated in hospital. A total of 5,000-7,000 displaced civilians were trapped in the hospital grounds, constantly being attacked by Israeli snipers and drones, according to the health ministry.

Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf Al-Qudra told Al Jazeera Arabia, "there are only doctors, patients and refugees inside Al-Shifa. We don't need to be afraid or hide anything."

After a stern warning from the United States and other countries that Al-Shifa should be protected, Israel said the attack was based on "operational needs".
