JAKARTA - Indonesian President Joko Widodo invited the United States (US) to contribute to easing Israeli aggression in Gaza, Palestine, for the sake of realizing global peace.

The Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta, Tuesday, informed that the invitation was conveyed by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) during a face-to-face meeting with US President Joe Biden at the White House, Washington DC, United States, Monday, local time.

"Indonesia hopes that our partnership (Indonesia-US) can contribute to regional peace and prosperity as well as globally," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, November 14.

During the meeting, President Jokowi invited President Biden to do more in stopping the conflict and atrocities that occurred in Gaza.

"This is a very painful thing for mankind," he said.

President Jokowi said the ceasefire was a must in order to fulfill humanity.

Previously, President Jokowi stated that the United States was one of the most important partners for Indonesia. Therefore, the two leaders agreed to increase the partnership between the two countries to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).

"But the most important thing is that we really have to mean it (CSP), because for Indonesia economic cooperation is a priority, including in supply chain issues," he said.

On this occasion, President Biden said that the increasing cooperation between Indonesia and the United States became a comprehensive strategic partnership, signaling a new era of cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

"This includes increasing our cooperation in terms of security," said President Biden.

President Biden said that another thing that is of concern to continue to be improved between the two countries is in terms of building safe supply chains to overcoming the climate crisis.

Included in it is to expand our cooperation in building a safe supply chain. This includes our deeper collaboration to tackle the climate crisis," he said.

The 46th President of the United States considered that Indonesia played an important role in the clean energy transition.

President Biden is also committed to continuing to increase cooperation between the United States and ASEAN to advance a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific region.

In addition, President Biden also appreciated Indonesia's leadership in ASEAN this year.

"I would like to thank you for your leadership in ASEAN this year," Biden told President Joko Widodo.

Indonesia is one of the countries mandated by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to initiate action on behalf of the OIC and the Arab League to stop the war in Gaza.

Apart from Indonesia, the OIC leaders through a resolution agreed upon after the extraordinary summit in Riyadh on Saturday (11/11), also mandated Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and Nigeria to help begin the political process to realize peace between Israel and Palestine.
