Heru Budi Hopes Monkeypox Cases Are Only Spread In Certain Communities

JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono hopes that the case of monkeypox does not spread more widely to Jakarta residents and the transmission is only in certain communities. Thus, the government can more easily map case searches and target recipients of monkeypox vaccinations. Although, currently there have been cases other than Jakarta. "God willing, it is only a certain community. We will localize it there. But there is 1 to West Java, I think," Heru told reporters, Wednesday, November 1. Heru said that the DKI Provincial Government has intensively vaccinated to provide immunity for risky groups and those who are prone to contracting monkeypox. This vaccination also targets close contacts of confirmed cases based on the results of the search. "The results of the tracing requested by the Provincial Government and the Ministry of Health at the Health Office, we are tracing. So what is the action? The action is that we are vaccinated and we are isolated who are still affected by monkeypox," explained Heru. For information, as of October 31, there have been 24 cases of monkeypox in Jakarta. One case was confirmed in August 2022 and has now recovered. Meanwhile, 23 cases have been recorded since October 13, 2023 and now all of them are still undergoing isolation in hospitals. Different from last year, this year's monkeypox transmission occurred through local transmission. The majority of monkeypox transmission is secondary infection and low immunity conditions in risky groups, one of which is male sex with male (NGO). In 23 active cases of monkeypox, all male patients with an age range of 25-50 years. All patients are infected from sexual contact, and experience mild symptoms.

The monkeypox vaccination has been given to 447 people from the target of 495 people. Vaccinations were given in two doses with a break of four weeks. The death rate or case fatality rate of monkeypox cases is around 1 percent. In a sense, of the 100 positive cases, one may have died.
