US Marshals Fugitive American Caucasians Fight When Arrested By Mataram Immigration In Lodging

MATARAM - The Mataram Immigration Office, West Nusa Tenggara, arrested a fugitive from the United States (US) Marshals with the initials MDP on the follow-up to a letter requesting the United States Consulate General (Konjen) based in Surabaya, East Java. "Based on the request for security and detention from the United States Consul General in Surabaya, we arrested MDP at an inn in the Midang area, West Lombok," said Head of the Mataram Immigration Office Pungki Handoyo in Mataram, Antara, Tuesday, October 31. The arrest took place on September 25, 2023. During the arrest, he explained, his party had encountered resistance from MDP. The US Caucasian refused to cooperate with the officers. However, after receiving an explanation from the officers by providing security guarantees, MDP followed directions to undergo an examination at the Mataram Immigration Office. "From the results of the examination, it was revealed that the person concerned had been overstaying for 14 days," he said. With these results, he said, Immigration stated that MDP had violated Article 75 paragraph (3) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration. "We had detained the person concerned in the detention room until finally deportation was taken to his home country, United States," said Pungki. MDP deportation was carried out on October 17, 2023. His party repatriated MDP through Zainuddin Abdul Madjid International Airport (BIZAM), Central Lombok Regency. He said this deportation action was part of immigration efforts to support the US Marshals law enforcement process against MDPs who were already on the wanted list. "According to immigration laws and regulations, foreigners who are not useful, let alone can endanger the community, must be dealt with immediately so as not to cause problems in Indonesia," he said.

Therefore, in addition to taking deportation action, immigration also recorded the name MDP on the list of deterrence for foreigners to enter Indonesia.
