JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts cloudy sunny weather will dominate most areas of the provincial capital on Saturday, October 21. Quoted from the BMKG website in Jakarta, the areas that will be predicted to be cloudy in the afternoon are Denpasar, Bengkulu, Yogyakarta, Central Jakarta, Jambi, Tarakan, Kupang, Pekanbaru, and Kendari. Meanwhile, the Mamuju, Manokwari, Jayapura, Mataram, Ambon, Samarinda, Palangkaraya, Semarang, and Serang areas are predicted to be cloudy. The cities of Surabaya and Makassar are predicted to be sunny this afternoon.

However, some areas are predicted to experience light rain this afternoon, namely Banda Aceh, Gorontalo, Banjarmasin, Pangkal Pinang, Bandar Lampung, Ternate, Manado, and Medan. The city of Padang is predicted to experience moderate rain this afternoon. BMKG warned the public to be aware of thunderstorms that will occur in the cities of Bandung, Pontianak, Tanjung Pinang, and Palembang this afternoon.

Meanwhile, Medan and Pekanbaru are predicted to experience thunderstorms at night.

Previously, the Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati said that the dry season prediction would end in most parts of Indonesia starting at the end of October, and the start of the rainy season gradually began in early November 2023.

However, due to the high climate diversity, the start of the rainy season does not occur simultaneously throughout Indonesia. Meanwhile, the peak of the rainy season is predicted to occur in January-February 2024.

The beginning of the rainy season, he said, is closely related to the transition of Australian Monsun to Asian Monsun. Currently, the Asian Monsoon has begun to enter Indonesian territory, so it is predicted that November will start to rain. "This means that El Nino's influence will begin to be reduced by the entry of the rainy season, so it is hoped that this dry drought will end gradually," he said.
