Jokowi Invites Saudi Arabia To Jointly Stop Escalating Conflicts In Gaza

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo invited the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to jointly stop the escalation of the conflict in Gaza so as not to increase.

"Indonesia strongly condemns the Israeli attack on Al Ahly Hospital in Gaza which claimed hundreds of civilian casualties," said President Jokowi during a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister (PM) of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KAS) Mohammed bin Salman al-Saud at Al-Yamah Palace, Riyadh, reported by ANTARA, Thursday, October 19.

Quoted from a statement from the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat received in Jakarta, Jokowi in a meeting with the Saudi Arabian Prime Minister, expressed Indonesia's concern about the worsening situation in Palestine.

Jokowi emphasized Indonesia's strong condemning all attacks that have an impact on humanity from the country.

The President invited the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to jointly stop escalation in conflict areas so as not to increase.

In addition, Jokowi also encouraged that problems in the conflict areas of Palestine and Israel could be resolved immediately in accordance with agreed regulations.

"This is the time for the world to stand together to stop escalation, prioritize humanitarian issues, and resolve the root problems according to the international parameters that have been agreed upon," said Jokowi.

Previously, Jokowi sent Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi to first leave the Indonesian presidential entourage in Beijing, China in the "Belt and Road Forum" series to immediately leave for Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to attend the Extraordinary Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of OKI.

The meeting was held in response to Israeli airstrikes against Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza that killed at least 471 victims and injured 342 others.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi urged the OIC to send a strong message and mobilize international support in overcoming the deteriorating situation of the conflict in Gaza. Then, Indonesia asked the OIC to urge all relevant parties to create a humanitarian corridor in Gaza, as well as ensure that international humanitarian law is respected.
