Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD revealed that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had given him permission to register as a vice presidential candidate to the KPU today. Mahfud said that President Jokowi's leave permit had also been submitted to the KPU.

"Yes, it has been handed over," said Mahfud at the KPU RI building, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Thursday, October 18.

Mahfud admitted that there was no message from Jokowi for him to run in the 2024 presidential election to accompany Ganjar Pranowo. According to him, Jokowi only gave permission by letter.

"No. Know he (the president) gave permission in the letter," he said.

Even informally, said Mahfud, Jokowi had not given any message. He understands that the president is still abroad.

"Not yet, it's still abroad," he said.

It is known that President Jokowi is traveling to Beijing, the People's Republic of China and Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on Monday, October 16.

On October 17 in Beijing, Jokowi met with President Xi Jin Ping and attended the 3rd Belt and Road Forum (BRF) Summit for International Cooperation.

And on October 18, Jokowi continued his trip to Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to make an official visit with the Crown Prince of the Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia and chair the first ASEAN-GCC 'Gulf Cooperation Council' Summit. The plan is that President Jokowi and the first lady will arrive in the country on October 21.
