P20 Session In India, Puan Affirms Indonesia's Commitment To Gender Equality

New DEHLI - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, attended the second day of the G20 Parliamentary Speaker's Summit or the 9th P20 which was held in India. At the parliamentary general session of the G20 countries, Puan emphasized Indonesia's commitment to the issue of gender equality.

The P20 General Assembly was held at the Yashoboomi Convention Center, New Delhi, India. After attending the first and second session sessions yesterday, Puan again participated in the third and fourth sessions at the P20 Speaker's Summit today, Saturday, October 14.

For the third session of the session, P20 in India discussed gender equality which is one of the targets of the SDGs. The theme in the third session of the 9th P20 session was Emorization of Gender Equality: from Pembangunan Perempuan to Development led by Women.

In this session, Puan emphasized that Indonesia continues to be committed to promoting gender equality in various fields. He said the central role of women will ensure long-term stability, progress, and development impacts.

"Indonesia is committed to achieving gender equality by 2030 as stated in the goals of the SDGs," said Puan.

"Our commitment is to ensure women's leadership and gender equality not only through affirmative actions in politics but also through gender-responsive planning and budgeting in the national development plan," added the first woman to serve as Chair of the DPR RI.

In the legal scope, Puan explained, supporting policies are very important to realize gender equality and development led by women. He revealed that currently Indonesia also has many laws that are oriented towards women, including in protecting women from forms of sexual violence.

"Indonesia has introduced a gender equality policy since at least 2000. We have also adopted a law that guarantees women's representation in politics," explained Puan.

The former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture also emphasized that Indonesia continues to encourage women to continue to be empowered in various sectors. Including, said Puan, in the business economic sector.

"Empowerment of women's economy is one of the most basic components in achieving gender equality, and to achieve SDGs," he said.

DPI itself is a framework initiated by the G20 related to technological transformation. According to Puan, DPI as a Digital Public Infrastructure System that is recommended to be developed and implemented will be more efficient, more transparent, and more environmentally friendly.

"This is about our life in the future. This is also a great leap for mankind that will bring unprecedented changes, both positively and negatively," said Bung Karno's grandson.

"DPI can be compared to physical infrastructure such as roads, and ports that connect the community and provide access to a large number of goods and services," continued Puan.

According to the 8th P20 President, DPI will also open up economic opportunities for everyone even who lives in remote areas. Then, continued Puan, DPI allows people to open bank accounts and receive salaries more quickly and easily.

"In short, DPI is our future infrastructure with enormous opportunities. This is truly an unimaginable breakthrough beyond our space and time," he said.

However, to realize that, there are indeed several challenges that will be faced. As is the need for appropriate national legal instruments to ensure sufficient state funding.

"Then strengthen digital literacy that allows every citizen to use IoT (Internet of Things) in the most responsible way," said Puan.

In this multilateral forum, Puan was present with the Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) Fadli Zon, Deputy Chairperson of BKSAP Gilang Dhielafararez, as well as Member of BKSAP Charles Honoris and Irine Badminton Roba Putri. Also accompanying Puan, namely the Indonesian Ambassador to India Ina Krisnamurthi and the Secretary General of the Indonesian House of Representatives Indra Iskandar.

As the host of the 9th P20 Session, India took the theme 'Parliaments for One Earth, One Family, One Future'. The P20 Session was attended by all the chairman of the G20 state Parliament and the delegation he brought. There were also representatives from invited countries as well as a number of international institutions.
