Drought In Sumenep, East Java Expands, 59 Villages Experience A Clean Water Crisis

SUMENEP - The number of drought areas in Sumenep Regency, Madura, East Java (East Java), this year has increased, as is the result of the latest mapping from the local Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD). "Initially, the results of our mapping in the dry season this year were 51 villages categorized as drought areas. However, as of October this to 59 villages or there were an additional eight villages," said BPBD Secretary Sumenep Abdul Kadir, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, October 13. He explained that the results of the mapping of the new drought area had been designated as locations prone to drought and became objects for distribution of clean water for residents. As many as 59 drought-prone villages, he continued, spread over 19 sub-districts, namely in 10 sub-districts of mainland and nine sub-districts in the islands. according to the results of BPBD Sumenep mapping, he said, the status of 59 drought-prone villages is divided into two, namely seven critical dry areas and 52 rare dry. "We have proposed additional distribution of clean water as much as 120 more tanks, because there is an additional number of drought areas in Sumenep," said Abdul Kadir.

Previously, BPBD Sumenep allocated distribution of around 300 tanks with a capacity of six thousand liters of water, assuming the number of drought areas was 51 villages. Sumenep consists of 334 villages/kelurahan in 27 sub-districts with details of 18 sub-districts on land and nine in the islands.
