Gerindra Reveals The Reason Gibran Becomes Prabowo's Vice Presidential Candidate

JAKARTA - The daily chairman of the Gerindra Party, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, revealed the reason that the name of Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka was considered to be a strong candidate for vice presidential candidate accompanying Prabowo Subianto. According to him, Gibran's candidacy in the 2024 presidential election has been guaranteed by the constitution.

"Because it is guaranteed by our constitution. Article 27 paragraph 1 of the 1945 Constitution which reads all citizens along with their position in the law and government and must uphold the law and government with no exceptions," said Dasco in his statement, Thursday, October 12.

The Deputy Speaker of the DPR said that Article 28D paragraph 3 of the 1945 Constitution contained the rules for the similarity of citizens' rights in the government. Gibran is no exception, although currently the age limit for the vice presidential candidate is still constrained.

"Furthermore, Article 28D paragraph 3 of the 1945 Constitution which reads that every citizen has the right to equal opportunities in the government," he explained.

In addition, said Dasco, the Law on Human Rights also regulates that all citizens have the right to be elected and vote in the election.

"Article 43 paragraphs 1 and 2 of Law No. 39 of 1999 concerning Human Rights which reads that every citizen has the right to be elected and vote in the election based on equal rights through direct, general, free, secret and fair voting in accordance with the provisions of the legislation," said Dasco.

It is known that Gibran is said to be one of four strong candidates for Prabowo's vice president. Apart from Gibran, there are SOE Minister Erick Thohir, Golkar Chairman Airlangga Hartarto, and East Java Governor Khofifah Indar Parawansa.
