JAKARTA - A Hamas military wing spokesman said they would kill one civilian hostage, for every Israeli attack targeting civilians in Gaza without warning.

In an audio statement released Monday, Al Qassam Brigade spokesman Abu Obeida said a major attack had taken place on civilian areas in Gaza.

"We announce any targeting of our safe citizens in their homes without warning, regretfully we will carry out the execution of our enemy's civilian hostages," Obeida said, launching NBC News Oct. 10, adding the execution would be broadcast in audio and video form.

Obeida said the message was a "warning" after Israel launched a "full suspension" of Gaza and hit the region with airstrikes after Hamas launched Saturday's attack.

Shortly after Obeida's statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that the picture of "destroy and destruction" of the militant group was "only the beginning."

PM Netanyahu did not appear to respond directly to Obeida's comments, but said Hamas would regret launching the attack last weekend.

"This mortal enemy wants war and he will get war," said PM Netanyahu.

More than 1,000 people were killed after Hamas militants broke through the border fence separating Israel from the blockaded Gaza Strip and began killing and kidnapping Israelis.

At least 700 people have died in Israel, according to the military, and more than 570 in Gaza and the West Bank, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said. Meanwhile, hundreds of people have been kidnapped
