National Police Chief Asks Young People To Beware Of Drug-Terrorism Networks

YOGYAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo asked the younger generation to be aware of the emergence of a combination of drug networks with terrorism that has been known in the world under the name "narcoterrorism".

"This terrorist group is now joining a drug network known in the world with the name 'narcoterrorism'. So this is what is happening and this is what we are currently facing in Indonesia," said Listyo Sigit Prabowo when delivering a national lecture with the theme "Generations Advancing in the Perspective of National Security" at the University of Aisyiyah (Unisa) Yogyakarta reported by ANTARA, Friday, September 29.

According to the National Police Chief, drug dealers and terrorist groups have started to act in subtle ways to target the younger generation who adjust their preferences or hobbies of young people.

"They entered smoothly, but then suddenly we were entangled, be careful," he said in front of thousands of students.

Drug trafficking, said Listyo Sigit, needs to be watched out for considering the number of drug addicts in the world has increased by almost 45 percent with a total of 39.5 million in the last 10 years.

Meanwhile, in Indonesia, he explained, the number was recorded at approximately 4.8 million people who were exposed to drugs.

"This is what we are facing now, but we continue to make disclosures and we are not indiscriminate in this regard," he said.

According to the National Police Chief, the police have arrested 37,607 drug users, including police officers.

"We will process any police officers in their rank," he said.

General Sigit assessed that the younger generation, including students, are still vulnerable to being exposed to drugs, among others, because they are affected by environmental conditions.

"Initially he was persuaded by his friends,'made up' after that because he was often bullied' he had to try, as soon as he wanted to be given free of charge. After being addicted, then disaster occurred there," he said.

Likewise, terrorism and radicalism, according to him, are still aggressively targeting young people by using doctrines under the guise of religion.

"Indeed, the spread is very easy through the internet, then the method is smoother," said the National Police Chief.
