Revitalization Of The Surakarta Palace Begins After The 2023 Secretariat Celebration

The revitalization of the Surakarta Hadiningrat Palace began after the Secretariat Celebration (celebration to commemorate the Birthday of the Prophet MuhammadSAW) which was completed on October 8, 2023.

Chairman of the Executive Board of Indigenous Councils (LDA) of the Surakarta Palace Kanjeng Pangeran (KP) Eddy Wirabhumi said the revitalization would start from the northern square area.

From the latest information received by the palace for the new revitalization, it will be carried out in the area within the square so that it does not interfere with the activities of street vendors (PKL) who sell around the square.

"So it hasn't touched anything yet, it means there are no problems for street vendors," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, September 27.

According to him, this condition is different from the southern square which is used more for selling by street vendors. However, the revitalization of the south square will not be carried out in the near future.

In terms of coordination, he asked the local government not to worry about this considering that street vendors in the south square also have one command with the management, namely the Surakarta Palace.

"If the south square has a touch with street vendors, but keep in mind that street vendors in the south square are in command with what is the 'dawuh' of the palace through the manager. So there is no need to worry, it can be discussed," he said.

In the future, to provide comfort for visitors to every street vendor who sells in the square area, they will be asked to complete non-cash transaction facilities.

Related to this, his party has communicated with state-owned banks to empower MSME actors.

"The hope is from banks to provide empowerment to street vendors after the revitalization process is completed," he said.

Regarding this, Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka said the revitalization of the Solo Palace square would begin in the middle of next month.

"October, wait for the Secretary to finish," he said.

As part of the preparations, his party has coordinated with the Trade Office and the Surakarta Palace regarding the temporary transfer of street vendors.

"It has been conditioned, (the transfer of street vendors is the responsibility of the palace," he said.
