Jokowi Holds Limited Meeting To Discuss Integration Of Public Transportation Modes

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) held a limited meeting (ratas) regarding the integration of public transportation modes in Jabodetabek. The ratas was held at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday, September 27.

Jokowi emphasized the integration of public transportation modes such as the MRT, LRT, Jakarta-Bandung Fast Train (Whoosh), and Railink Airport Train, with other modes of transportation to encourage people to use public transportation.

"After we have the MRT, LRT, fast train, then there is the airport train, what we must immediately complete is how we integrate this mode of transportation with other modes of transportation such as Transjakarta, buses, online taxis, online motorcycle taxis, so we need a system that makes it easier "It is society that ultimately encourages people to use public transportation, because the key is ease and comfort," said Jokowi in his introduction to the meeting.

Jokowi conveyed a number of concerns that must be prepared in the integration of public transportation modes, namely, first, accelerating the development of connecting infrastructure between transportation.

"Firstly, speed up the development of connecting infrastructure, connecting bridges for example between the Halim LRT and the high-speed train station, then also connecting Manggarai Train Station with Transjakarta, connecting Tanah Abang and Dukuh Atas stations, and we have to make sure everything has lighting, has street lights, and can protect from rain," explained Jokowi.

Second, Jokowi emphasized the importance of collaboration with transportation providers to the final destination.

"It would be very good if people just order once and then the system has already planned and what multi-mode of transportation should be used, everything has been prepared. For example, first take a motorbike taxi to the station, then take the train, then take the Transjakarta train to the destination point. So, there is no need looking for it, no need to wait because everything is integrated," he explained.

Furthermore, Jokowi wants the public transportation payment system to be integrated using payment tools that are easy for the public to use.
