Russian Air Attack Damages Odesa Port Facilities And Storage Of Grains

JAKARTA - A number of port infrastructures and grain storage facilities were significantly damaged by Russian airstrikes in Odesa, Ukrainian officials said Monday.

No casualties were reported in the attack on Odesa, but at least one person was killed in a separate Russian airstrike in Beryslav City, southern Kherson, regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin said.

"Another major attack on Odesa! The attack resulted in the destruction of grain storage facilities and significant damage to ports," said Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko on platform X.

Meanwhile, the Governor of Odesa Region, By the Goalkeeper, said that the affected storage facilities had nearly 1,000 tons of seeds.

The attack on Odesa is the latest in a series of missile and drone attacks, which Kyiv says prevents it from sending its agricultural products to the global market.

"The seaport in Odesa was badly damaged," the southern Ukrainian military command said via a Telegram messaging app, also reporting a fire at an unused hotel.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military said its air defenses successfully destroyed 19 protected drones made by Iran dab cruise missiles overnight, the majority leading to Odesa.

In addition, Russia is also said to have fired two hypersonic missiles that destroyed grain storage facilities.

Meanwhile, the energy ministry said the attack also damaged the electricity grid and cut electricity to more than 1,000 consumers in the Odesa region.

Ukraine's ability to send wheat was hit by Russia's decision to come out of a deal that would allow the delivery of grains through the Black Sea on July 17.

In response, Kyiv sent wheat through the Danube River, by road and train, as well as building "humanitarian corridors" around the coast of the Black Sea to deliver wheat to the African and Asian markets.

The first two ships carrying wheat that used the corridor left the port of the Black Sea Chornomsk last week.
