BATAM - Barelang Police Chief Kombes Pol Nugroho said that when the demonstration took place around the case of Pulau Rempang, it was suspected that there were provocateurs who made incitements with a viral threat. The goal is considered to be detrimental to the name of the police who carried out security.

"Yesterday, in the midst of the action, there were provocateurs who put forward mothers and children during the action. The goal is that if chaos and children occur and mothers become victims, it will be viral and there is evidence," said Kapolresta Barelang Kombes Pol Nugroho to VOI who met him at Pasir Panjang Village, Pulau Rempang, Galang District, Thursday, September 21.

Nugroho said the police and the integrated team had anticipated the gusts from the provocateurs in the middle of the action.

"We, from the police and other integrated teams, have anticipated by telling mothers to supervise their children and we also inform them the same thing to the teachers," said Nugroho.

Regarding the information that there was a baby who died due to being exposed to tear gas, Nugroho emphasized that it was not true and no one died.

"We also evacuated mothers and children, including babies who were said to have been exposed to tear gas and died when they didn't. Members took them to the hospital and thank God they are healthy until now. Issues and rumors like that are currently being monitored and sought by our members," said Nugroho.

The issue that was circulating on social media related to the incident on Pulau Rempang, Batam emphasized that Nugroho was not true and harmed the name of the police.

"One of them is about the presence of a resident's head who was hit by a rubber bullet and then his head broke, it turned out that after checking it was edited," said Nugroho.

"Therefore, I ask the public to be wise and careful in receiving any information circulating on social media that is not necessarily true," he said about the amount of information circulating in the case of Pulau Rempang.
