Soebronto Laras was born on October 5, 1943. He is the second of four children. He briefly attended education at Paisley College in Scotland with a concentration of machine engineering in 1969. After that in 1972 he continued his Diploma of Business Administration education from Hendon College in London.

After he completed his education in London, Soebronto then became acquainted with Atang Latief, the owner of Bank Indonesia Raya. The two of them were close friends until Soebronto became Atang's confidant.

Despite being known as an automotive figure, Soebronto actually started his first career at PT First Chemical Industry, a company that focuses on formics, plastic tools and assembly of calculators. At that time he served as Director. After that he just moved to a company engaged in the automotive sector.
